Welcome to The Hobby Photographer.
So, what’s it all about? The Hobby Photographer is intended to provide a central source of information for amateur photographers or anyone who might be thinking of taking up photography as a hobby. The site is squarely focused on providing good quality articles and how to’s for just about everything related to photography.
Why is it here?
There’s nothing more frustrating than trying to learn something only to discover that the information available isn’t complete or correct. Something we all need for whatever topic we’re trying to learn about is a single point of reference containing enough basic information for us to get started and more advanced information to allow us to progress as our abilities grow. The Hobby Photographer was started with this in mind.
Why me?
Well, I AM the hobby photographer!
Photography has been my primary hobby for a number of years now and it’s something I’m very passionate about. Through my own experiences I have learned some valuable lessons and I’d like to be able to share this information with others. I’m not an “expert” or pro-photographer and I don’t claim to be. I’m an I.T. guy with a hobby.
I’m more than happy to discuss photography related topics with other amateur photographers (or anyone else for that matter) and to help them out if I know the answer to a question they have. I don’t judge anyone – there’s no such thing as a silly question. People ask because they want to learn, not because they’re lacking in ability.
How to get started?
Getting started here is very easy. If you’re new to photography, I would suggest starting with the “Photography Fundamentals” category. Beyond that, simply pick and choose information as you wish. I try to group articles in categories as logically as possible so if there’s a particular area you have an interest in, start there.
How do I interact?
Interacting on the site is just as easy as reading the information. At the bottom of every article, you’ll find a text box with the title “Leave a Reply”. Simply add your comments in the box and click on the “Post Comment” button to start a discussion on the topic (your first comment will require moderation prior to it being published).
Help! There’s something missing!
The site is a work in progress and I will be adding information continually. If there’s something specific you’re looking for that’s NOT on the site yet, use the contact form on the menu to send me an email, or get hold of me via twitter (@shan_THP) and let me know about it! I’m always looking for new information to include on the site, and there’s no better information that the stuff you’re actually looking for.
How do I keep up to date?
If you are interested in finding out about new articles as they are posted, you’ll find an email subscription form on the sidebar. All you need to do is enter your name and primary email address and then finally click the “Submit” button.
